(Office) work after Covid will be better

My former McKinsey colleagues issued recently a strong piece of research regarding office work and life after covid-19. Like many others, the main focus seems to be on designing the physical working environment.

Reimagining the office and work life after COVID-19
The pandemic has forced the adoption of new ways of working. Organizations must reimagine their work and the role of offices in creating safe, productive, and enjoyable jobs and lives for employees.

I’m would like to recommend the following additional crucial aspects and actions:

  1. Definition of code of conduct for virtual working

  2. Provision of focussed up-skilling offers, that go along with current work load

  3. Work-& coffee corner tool solutions that support the typical working environment as well as the coffee corner conversations

The code of conduct should comply with the organization strategy. It must be clearly articulated (camera on; voice optimization; no multi-tasking; defined availability hours; status check-ins; ...).

Up-skilling is a challenge for most older generations. Beside the missing competence and routine, the barriers are often lack of time, shyness and lack of understanding of the need. LernOS offers a great way to overcome these hurdles by gathering people in learning circles of similar levels and providing an agile framework to make constantly small learning steps towards a self defined goal. Innovative tool solutions like Remo offer an office like map overview and the possibility to have a „sitting at the same table„ feeling. Rooms can be picked for all different kinds of real (former) life situations: focussed work; creative work; Social small talk and much more.
